India’s favourite car Maruti Alto had reached yet another milestone by becoming the most sold car in India. It surpassed the record of Maruti 800 by selling more than 29 lakh units. Maruti Alto was launched in 2000 and was sold about 29,19,819 units until October 2015. Previously, Maruti 800 was sold over 28 lakh units in its lifetime of 29 years. Maruti Alto broke that record in just 15 years which is quite a record for that small car.
Maruti is currently offering Alto 800 and Alto K10. Alto 800 is powered by 0.8 Litre K-Series petrol engine, while the K10 is powered by 1.0Litre K-Series petrol engine. Alto K10 also comes with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) option. Maruti had brought several changes for Alto since its launch. Both these cars currently rule the Indian Auto Industry with their huge Value for money offer. Maruti Alto is the first choice for most of the first time Indian car buyers. The major success of Maruti Alto is contributed by the Maruti Brand trust which is embedded into the nerves of a rational Indian buyer.
At present, Hyundai Eon and Renault Kwid are the main competitors for Maruti Suzuki Alto. Hyundai Eon, although had better quality and styling cues compared to Alto couldn’t quite dominate Maruti Alto due to high price fixed by Hyundai. However, Renault gave warning bells for Maruti with the Kwid giving it high competency dominating Alto in all aspects. Still many Indians will blindly go and buy Alto due to the huge trust Alto had created in our minds since 15 years. We just had an idea in our mind that if all the Alto customers gathered together, they can form a small country and the name of that country can be ALTO – All Together .
