Used cars market is an evergreen market in India. There has been a rise in the well known car brands in the used cars business along with growing acceptance of second-hand vehicles. The only thing which discourages the customer is about its genuinity. A customer of used cars always has a doubt whether it’s stolen or genuine one. The bad old suspicious days are gone. Government has now introduced a new facility to verify used cars.
While buying a used car or any other vehicle, you can now check its genuineness simply by sending an sms to 7738299899 from your mobile phone. Similarly, the enforcement authorities can also verify the holders of driving licences, considered as proof of address in many cases, by sending the number to 8790499899.
The government has also developed a web-enabled application for verifications of used vehicles, which is available free of cost. The web-enabled facilities will help get more details about vehicles and drivers as well. The data of car including its date of purchase, chassis number and place of registration that has been mapped to the RTOs.
National Informatics Centre (NIC) developed this SMS and web-based applications after the transport ministry received several queries about genuineness of vehicles and drivers. People can get “limited” details free of cost such as chassis and engine numbers, place of registration and validity in the case of RCs. Similarly, for DLs the limited details include the bearer’s name, validity and place of issue.
