2015 has been a very good year for all the car companies as the sales rocketed sky high never than before in the previous years. we will now go through which are all vehicles that performed well in terms of sales and stood in the Top 10 list.
10. Maruti Omni (78,927 units) –
Maruti Omni is the age old product which still performs well. We have been seeing it on the roads since it is used as a product by villains in movies for kidnapping uptill now. It is majorly used for commercial purposes but still it continue to perform well.
9. Honda City (82,922 units) –
Honda City is the major product for Honda India and it continue to perform well in the sedan segment dominating all other vehicles like Verna and Ciaz. After the introduction of diesel engine for City it took the crown from the Verna to stand top in the segment. Customers feel more brand value by purchasing Honda City than other cars like Verna and Ciaz in that segment, which is the main reason for its success. It is the only product from the Honda line-up to stand in the Top 10 list.
8. Maruti Celerio (82,961 units) –
Maruti Celerio is famous for its AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). It is a very friendly vehicle for the city commuters as it reduces the problem of operating 3 pedals. Recently it has got in-house developed diesel engine which is a 0.8L pack. Major volume for the Celerio comes from the urban buyers.
7. Mahindra Bolero (87,861 units) –
Bolero is the only SUV to stand in the Top-10 list this year. It is also only product for Mahindra in this list. Majority of the volume for Bolero comes from the rural areas. Its robustness and ability to handle difficult roads and huge value for money associated with it are the reasons for its success in rural areas.
6.Hyundai Grand i10 (1,24,072 units) –
Hyundai Grand i10 which is the Indian Car of the Year in 2014 continue to sell well in 2015 too. Though it doesn’t dominate its main rival Swift, it performed well with more than 1lakh units sold in 2015. Grand i10 is more famous for its good petrol engine and interior quality which is decades ahead of other cars in the segment. Quality, features and overall good engine performance are the main reasons for its success in the hatchback segment.
5.Hyundai Elite i20 (1,30,126 units) –
Hyundai Elite i20 is the Indian Car of the Year 2015. The list doesn’t complete with the car of the year being in the Top-10 list. Reasons for its success are exterior design, Interior quality, feature offering and good engine performance. Although it is priced at a higher price, buyers doesn’t mind spending more for this vehicle which is extremely stylish. Recently Baleno was launched as a competitor of Elite i20, but still i20 continue to perform well without witnessing a fall in sales.
4.Maruti WagonR(1,70,399 units) –
Maruti WagonR which is popular for its boxy type of stylish which offers more interior space once again grabbed its spot in the Top-10 list. WagonR has recently got AMT and airbags as optional from base which is an added advantage for this vehicle. it is surprising to see a boxy vehicle selling more in these style oriented days. However, Maruti vehicles are famous for their huge value for money proposition which is the reason for their huge foot print in India.
3. Maruti Swift (2,06,924 units) –
Swift is famous more among young customers for the kind of ride it offers grabbed the 3rd spot with over 2 lakh units sold. The ride & handlng and engine performance are the main reasons for its success and ofcourse trusted Maruti is always there at your rescue. Although other competitors like Grand i10 performed well, they couldn’t bring down the sales of Swift. However, after the entry of Baleno there is a slight cannibalization witnessed by Swift due to less price difference between the two vehicles.
2. Maruti Swift Dzire (2,36,038 units) –
Dzire is the most desired sedan in India. Many people who buy small hatchbacks as their first purchase continue to upgrade to Dzire as their next purchase. Dzire is also famous among taxi buyers as Dzire Tour whose sales piled up after the increase of these OLAs and UBERs. Although it is not a proper sedan (just an attached boot to Swift), the sales volume talks much about our Indians aspiration to buy a sedan (a bigger car).
1. Maruti Alto (2,72,096 units) –
Once again its the Alto which is the most preferred vehicle among our Indian customers. It continue to sell well despite the introduction of Renault Kwid at the similar price. It is famous among the first time car buyers in both rural and urban areas. The sales number is the combination of both Alto800 and Alto K10.
So these are the best selling cars in 2015. The only new entry in the list is Celero which replaced Hyundai Eon which is present in Top-10 list in 2014. Maruti has 6 vehicles in their Top-10 list which is not an usual achievement followed by Hyundai with 2 vehicles. Mahindra and Honda shared single spot in Top-10 list each.
