Jeeps are some of the coolest things on Earth, and certainly some of the most fun.The brand has gone through many owners over a decades. Starting with Willys which produced the first civilian jeep in 1945 to present day Fiat Chryslers Automobiles. Fiat has been considering bringing the Jeep brand to India for a while. The launch has been postponing since it was first expected in 2013.The long wait is finally over as the mega brand is finally set for its launch this year during the Auto Expo 2016.
In a bid to create buzz around its appearance at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo, iconic 4X4 SUV brand Jeep revealed its brand mark in India by unveiling a pre-launch website in the country on Wednesday.The pre-launch website offers the first glimpse to customers and fans of it’s bestselling models – the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler Unlimited –ahead of its official reveal in India in February.
Coming to the SUVs itself, the upcoming Grand Cherokee will be powered by 305bhp 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with peddle shifters. The Grand Cherokee will also come with a 4X4 Quadra-Drive system along with engine stop-start system. The Grand Cherokee STR on the other hand sports a more powerful 475bhp, 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine, paired to the same 8-speed automatic transmission as the standard Grand Cherokee. As for the brand’s entry level SUV, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, the off-roader will feature a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 197bhp and 460 Nm of torque.
The Jeep vehicle line-up consists of the Cherokee, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, Renegade, Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited. With Indian launch Jeep would be expanding its global network. Keep your fingers crossed and wait for some more time. Because this time it’s not to lure but for sure.
