Mahindra launched 1.99-litre engine versions of Scorpio and XUV5OO in Delhi following the ban which opposes the selling of diesel engines more than 2,000 cc.
Mahindra is one of the major automobile manufacturer which is worst hit by diesel engine ban in Delhi. Its major strength is the SUV segment which is almost completely banned in Delhi. It is reported that they are developing these downsized engines since August 2014.
Now these new engines will save Scoprio and XUV5OO from being jailed in the dealerships and make from free to ply on the roads of Delhi. Later on, these downsized 1.99-litre engine versions of Scorpio and XUV5OO will be launched all over India. The power outputs of 1.99 litre Scorpio and XUV5OO stands at 120bhp and 140bhp respectively which is same output produced by previous 2.2 mHawk diesel engines of both vehicles.
Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra Tweeted “What a team we have. I bow low to them. With awesome speed, they reconnect us to our customers in the NCR.”
Currently both of the vehicles are selling at an average of 3,000 units per month. We will see how these bans and new engines effect their sales in the month of January ’16.
