Maruti’s recently launched Baleno is a good success. Ever since the vehicle is launched, it garnered around 70,000 bookings. It has even dominated the Hyundai Elite i20 in the month of December ’15 in terms of sales. At present it stands at a 6 month long waiting period which truly shows the huge demand the vehicle is having in the market. The long 6 month waiting period shows even Maruti hasn’t expected such a good response for the vehicle. Not to mention that the vehicle is available only at premium NEXA showrooms.
The main success for the vehicle is its price which is just 30k above Swift. Maruti also gave good quality and finish, although its still a long way to match the Hyundai standards. Feature offering is also one of the major USP. Maruti also offered CVT transmission for Baleno which is the first vehicle from the Maruti line-up to get that. Consumers however accepted this product to a great extent such that it surpassed the 10K volume per month.
It is also reported that Baleno is the most searched vehicle in the recent months surpassing all other vehicles.
Officials of the Maruti said that the waiting period is expected to be continue in the similar fashion in the coming months too. However, it cannibalized the sales of the Swift due to less price difference with it. Recently there was a price hike of 5k~12K based on the variant. The Baleno is now priced from INR 5.11 lakhs to INR 8.16 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi).
Maruti also going to showcase the RS variant of Baleno at the Auto Expo 2016. This variant might get equipped with 1.0L Ecoboost engine. some other changes could be visual add-ons like side skirts, bigger alloys etc. At present the Baleno is manufactured only in India and exported to other countries.
