As per our sources, Maruti’s upcoming sub 4 metre SUV, the Vitara Brezza will only be available in diesel engine option. It is said that, the Vitara Brezza, even though based on Swift’s platform will not share all its engines. “Petrol engine was never considered for YBA (Vitara Brezza)”, said an official. When Vitara Brezza was being developed, the market was dominated by diesel. This made us to single out on diesel engine only.
Initially, Maruti considered in-house 1.5-litre diesel engine for the Vitara Brezza. But due to technical nags in development, this engine will see the light of the day only after 2017. This made Maruti to opt for tried and tested Fiat’s 1.3-litre diesel engine, which is already in use in most of its models.
It has been designed and developed within three and half years, which is exactly the same duration taken by an integrated R&D team of Maruti and Suzuki to develop a vehicle.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is likely to be positioned against Ecosport and is expected to be priced aggressively. The Global debut will take place at Auto Expo 2016, with launch likely to happen a few weeks after that. It will only be sold through ordinary Maruti dealerships, and not though NEXA, as speculated earlier.
