Maruti Suzuki Ignis was showcased at the ongoing Auto Expo at Greater Noida. Ignis was launched in Japan at a price of 1.382 million Yen (Rs. 8 lakhs) – 1.778 million Yen (Rs. 10.3 lakhs). However, the Indian launch is expected to take place in the second half of 2016. As you know, Maruti Suzuki Ignis is based on the iM-4 concept showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Suzuki terms IGNIS as a ‘new-genre mini crossover of compact car and SUV’.
Ignis will be manufactured in India with high level of localisation, similar to Maruti Baleno. Maruti will also export it to other markets, part of plan of Maruti to make India a small car manufacturing hub. If reports are to be believed, Ignis will be sold only in NEXA dealerships, alongside Ciaz and S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki Ignis launch date in India:
It is reported that the Ignis will be launched in second half of 2016. We expect it to be in the festive season as auto-makers have a custom of launching their models during the same as Indians like to buy cars during the festive season.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Video:
The Production Spec Ignis was first showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. It was similar to the concept, except that the styling was toned down. Similar to the Japanese market, we expect the Ignis to be available in three variants – MG, MX and MZ. The Japanese version is equipped with features like dual airbags, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill descent control, lane departure warning, Cruise Control, Dual Camera Brake Support, Total Effective Control Technology etc. All these features may not be carried over to the Indian version for obvious reasons.
Other features include automatic climate control, keyless entry with engine start/stop button, bluetooth enabled music system, heated front seats, UV and IR-cut glass and 175/60 R16 tyres
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Image Gallery:
Maruti Ignis is based on new light weight platform which is stiffer and stronger than the existing Maruti Suzuki platforms. It is the same platform which also underpins the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. It expresses high-texture image with a clean structure composed of simple lines and surfaces, without using decorations. Maximising the wheelbase, tyres are placed in each corner of the body to express a strong crossover. It carries forward several design cues from the concept such as the flared wheel arches, chrome front fascia. It now uses projector headlamps instead of LED units.
The side profile gets power foldable ORVMs, R16 alloy wheels, blackened A and B pillars, flared wheel arches, body side cladding, pull type door handles. The rear, on the other side, seems to be the most neglected one while designing the car. It looks quite simple and the small rear windscreen could cause blind spots.
As far as dimensions are concerned, Ignis measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm. It has a ground clearance of 180 mm, which adds to its SUV character. It has a turning radius of 4.7 metres, which is common amon the cars of this size. The top end two wheel drive version weighs 880 kg, whereas the all wheel drive model weighs 920 kg. Front seats have high hip point of 615mm. Because the eye-point also rises, it offers excellent visibility. Plus, it contributes to easier ingress and egress owing to less vertical hip movement
Interior & Features:
As with the exterior, the interior is also composed of simple lines and surfaces. Functional parts such as cylinder shaped air-conditioner panel are each placed independently from the instrument panel. Along with bold colouring of strong contrast, they produce unique interior space. High luminance painting of orange that gives active impression and titanium colour that gives mechanical impression are adopted on front part of the centre console and inside door grips to match with the body colour.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis gets a lot of safety equipment which include dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, lane departure warning, ESP, Hill-Hold, Hill Descent control, automatic headlights with automatic leveling, LED headlights and LED foglights. Other features include automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with engine starter button, Bluetooth-enabled music system, heated front seats, regenerative braking, UV- and IR-cut glass and 175/60 tyres with 16-inch aluminium wheels. The top end variant will be equipped with Apple CarPlay System.
Engine and Transmission:
The Japanese spec Ignis is powered by 1,242 cc four-cylinder K12C DualJet with mild-hybrid technology. This fuel burner produces 91 PS and 118 Nm of torque. With the SHVS, the DC synchronous motor adds an extra 3.1 PS and 50 Nm of torque. CVT is the only gearbox option, though paddle shifters are provided. It delivers a mileage of 28 kmpl for the 2WD and 15.4 kmpl for AWD.
For Indian market, it is still not clear about the engine options for the Ignis. It is speculated that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new 1.2-litre 3 cylinder diesel engine. But we doubt the possibility of it. The AWD version may not be available in India –> may be due to possibility of low demand. The SHVS system used in the Japanese version uses lithum-ion battery, while the Indian version may get, if at all, high capacity lead acid battery (low cost). It is the same on used in Ciaz and Ertiga SHVS
Maruti Suzuki Ignis Mileage in India:
Considering the kerb weight, Mileage is estimated to be around 21~22 kmpl
