Ever wondered how a virus can infect a car. Tata Zica can be considered as a perfect answer to it. The impact of virus is so strong that Tata motors has sought to change the name of its upcoming hatchback from Zica to Tiago. The earlier name which had resembelence with the name of deadly virus called Zika that claimed many victims worldwide, was being scrapped.
The new name was selected based on a poll result between Tiago, Civet and Adore. The three names shortlisted from over 37,000 entries it received in a contest run on social media.Interestingly, Tiago is like Thiago, which is the name of Tata Motors’ brand ambassador Lionel Messi’s elder son.
Following the withdrawal of Zica, an acronym for zippy car, Tata Motors had launched a crowdsourcing campaign to find a new name for the vehicle. The company announced on a social media platform that after an exhilarating few days of the #Fantastico name hunt, the people have chosen a title for the new car.
The scrapping of the earlier name had also delayed the model’s launch in the market. The Mumbai-based company said that it will now apply for regulatory registrations of Tiago and intends to introduce the model before the end of next month. Tata Tiago, which competes with Maruti Suzuki Celerio, will cost nearly Rs 6 lakh.
