Tata Motors issued a statement that they will rename the name of their Zica hatchback and sedan which are yet to be launched. The major reason behind this change is the Zika virus. Zika is the name of the virus which is recently wide spread across South America. As both Zica and Zika sounds similar, Tata had decided to change the name of the car.
However, For the Auto Expo the company will continue to showcase the vehicle in the name of Tata Zica itself since it is just decided today. The new name will be announced after few weeks from the Auto Expo 2016. The vehicle will be launched only after the introduction of new name for Zica.
Tata Zica is powered by 1.2L petrol producing 85PS power and 114Nm of torque and 1.05L diesel producing 70PS and 140Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to 5-speed manual transmission. AMT is also expected later.
Tata had made a good move by deciding to change the name of the vehicle as it gives a kind of negative impression to come with the name of virus. It is not a big loss for the company as the product is not yet launched and the manufacturing operations are not in the full swing.
