Nissan’s low-cost brand Datsun is gearing up to launch the highly anticipated Redi Go in India. Showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, Redi Go is expected to launch on April 14th. Thanks to a localisation of more than 95%, RediGo is expected to carry a price tag of under Rs 3.5 lakh. It is based on the same platform that underpins the Kwid hatchback. Datsun currently has two other models – GO hatchback and GO+ MPV.
The Datsun Redi Go will share lots of features and components from the Kwid. Powering the hatchback will be the same 800cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. It will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s production plant in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu.
Not just India, the Redi-Go hatchback will also be exported to select international markets. The vehicle will be exported to South African market. Adding to it, the low-cost brand is also considering a left-hand drive version of the small car for several emerging markets.
